Ever looked at marketing awards and thought, “I have no clue which category our work fits best?”. You’re not the only one. Our categories overlap a little (because great marketing is often doing multiple things at once), but each celebrates something slightly different.
We have five Work Awards – each designed to celebrate a unique aspect of marketing brilliance. Think of these as recognising the outcome – the strategy, execution, and outputs that came together to make an impact.
Here’s a quick guide to help you figure out which one’s the best fit for your work.
Excellence in Branding
This category celebrates strong, distinctive, and consistent brand identities or rebrands. It focuses on how strategy and creativity come together to shape how a brand looks, sounds, and feels.
It’s right for you if your work has defined or refreshed a brand – from visual identity and tone of voice to positioning and presence – and created something that feels both authentic and memorable.
Think: brand refreshes, new visual identities, tone of voice development, or complete rebrands that bring a business to life from logo to launch.

Excellence in Storytelling
This award celebrates marketing built around a powerful narrative – the kind of work that connects with people through message and emotion rather than measurement.
It’s right for you if your project used story to spark a reaction, inspire loyalty, or make people care – even if there aren’t big statistics to back it up. The focus here is on the idea and the impact it has on hearts and minds.
Think: brand storytelling, emotionally-led campaigns, content series, films, or written pieces that engage people deeply and leave a lasting impression.

Excellence in Creative Production
This category recognises the craft and creativity that bring ideas to life. It celebrates visual or multimedia work that captures attention through strong production and design.
It’s right for you if your project stood out for its execution – whether through photography, video, animation, design, or a mix of media. If Storytelling is about the story, Creative Production is about how beautifully that story was told.
Think: photography campaigns, film or animation projects, graphic design, or mixed media work that makes people stop, look, and feel something.

Excellence in Innovation
This award celebrates new thinking – projects that tried something different, challenged convention, or used technology or creativity in unexpected ways.
It’s right for you if your work involved taking a risk, testing a new approach, or doing something that pushed your marketing (or your audience’s expectations) forward.
Think: experimental campaigns, new formats or platforms, data-driven creativity, AI applications, or original strategies that broke new ground.

Excellence in Performance
This category recognises marketing that delivered clear, measurable success. It’s about the work where strategy, creativity, and execution came together to achieve tangible results.
It’s right for you if your campaign had defined objectives and can demonstrate real impact – whether that’s engagement, growth, conversions, or another measurable outcome.
Think: performance-driven campaigns, PPC or paid social work, data-led marketing, or multi-channel activity where the numbers tell a clear story.

Still not sure?
If your project overlaps more than one category, that’s completely fine – many do. You might enter your rebrand into Excellence in Branding and your launch campaign into Excellence in Storytelling.
The important thing is to focus your entry on what made that particular piece of work exceptional.
The East Anglian Marketing Awards are here to recognise the full spectrum of great marketing – from creativity to innovation to performance. Whichever category you choose, make sure your entry reflects what your work set out to achieve and why it mattered.
